Beauty Miracle or Fad: Can you reverse skin ageing with 15 mins of LED light therapy?

While there are multiple beauty trends available on the internet,  not all can live up to their claims. With many ladies (and gentlemen too) scouring the internet for the best beauty regimes to reverse skin ageing, Shens Therapeutics is here to help you out.

If we were to tell you that there is an effortless and surefire way to reverse skin ageing by just lying back with your eyes closed, what would be your response? Would you immediately whip out your phone to make an appointment to treat your delicate face, or would you check out the reviews to ensure that they do ‘work’ before investing your time in this treatment?

In short, the treatment which we are talking about today is LED light therapy. Although you may have heard more people talking about them lately, they are actually nothing new. LED lights have been around since the 1960s. While dermatologists and scientists have been studying for many years how the sun rays (ultraviolet A & ultraviolet B) damages our skin. Still, they did not look into the effects of visible light up till not long ago. Thus, the discovery of the positive benefits of LED lights.

It is only in recent years that LED light is used as a form of skin treatment. The different wavelengths of the visible light spectrum correspond to different LED light colours and penetrate the skin up to different depths. Depending on how deeply they penetrate, LED lights are thought to have different biological effects.

So, you might be asking, what are the beneficial biological effects? We’re here to find them out.

Roses are Red & the Violets are Blue, LED is good.

Red

Typically, the red and blue lights are the ones being used by dermatologists or facial spa therapists in the LED light treatment. According to skin experts, the red LED light acts on cells in the skin known as fibroblasts, which play a role in the production of collagen, a protein that makes up a large part of connective tissue. Thus, helping the skin to recover when it’s harmed.

In theory, the red LED light can help to reverse some signs of ageing that relates to photoaging or sun damage. Furthermore, scientists have also supported that red light may help restore hair for those with androgenetic alopecia, or male- and female-pattern hair loss.

So, be it damaged skin or hair loss, red LED light is good for you!

Blue

On the other hand, blue LED lights are commonly used to treat acne. The blue LED light may reduce the activity in the sebaceous glands, so the sebaceous glands produce less of the oil that can plug the hair follicles, leading to acne. Blue light may also kill acne-causing bacteria known as Cutibacterium acnes (C.Acne).

Often blue and red LED lights are used in combination to help fight acne — the blue LED light targeting the C. Acne, and the red LED light targeting inflammation and redness.

Yellow

Aside from the blue and red LED lights, there is the yellow light therapy. The yellow LED light targets the light receptors on our cells which then converts the light into energy. The cells are then fuelled with energy which they need to function at optimal ability.

Summarily, Yellow LED Light Therapy is generally used to increase wound healing, collagen induction, skin hydration and the overall health of the skin. Yellow LED Light Therapy is a perfect post-treatment for individuals who have undergone cosmetic injections, treatments that involve microdermabrasion, fractional laser or skin needling treatments. Yellow LED light can help to speed up skin recovery and maximise the benefits of your treatments.

However, as a standalone treatment, the yellow LED light can help to reduce redness from existing rosacea, which we have mentioned in our previous article and leave your skin looking more radiant.

Green

Lastly, the green LED light therapy is probably the least common one on the list. The green light wavelength can help to soothe sensitive skin and even out skin tone by slowing down the production of melanin so that not as much pigmentation reaches the top layers of our skin. Thus, lightening and fades pigmentation, age spots, freckles and protects your skin from future discolourations.

Closing

So, back to the question, is LED light therapy a beauty miracle or a fad? And, can it really reverse skin ageing in just 15mins? All in all, with the clinical researches and various endorsements by dermatologists, the LED light therapy has definitely proven itself to be a skincare miracle in the modern world with no risk involved.

However, at Shens Therapeutics, we believe that the reversal of skin ageing does not happen overnight or in just 15mins. The quest to achieve youthful skin involves a long term process of proper cleansing, nourishing, moisturising, protecting your skin from sun damages and allowing it to heal. As many would have often said, “beauty is not for the lazy”. Hence, it certainly can’t be attained overnight.

Many Singaporeans are leading a hectic lifestyle, and the increased stress doesn’t help alleviate overall skin ageing either. With that, if you are looking to wind down and pamper your skin with LED light therapies, we have some great treatments for you!

Shens Therapeutics| LED Lights Therapy

Dual-light Luminous Skin

The Dual-Light Luminous Skin treatment starts with an intense pulsed light applied over your face using advanced clinical-grade IPL technology.

Painless and safe, the treatment promotes collagen production in the subdermal layer and restores skin to a more youthful state. The new generation IPL system carefully controls the delivery of the light – both wavelengths and speed – to treat various skin conditions. This treatment focuses on anti-ageing, skin rejuvenation, reversing fine lines, wrinkles, and tired, dull skin.

Next, your skin will be treated to the gentle photo-modulation of Omega LED light. LED phototherapy uses natural, gentle rays to stimulate collagen stimulation. Thus, increasing cellular regeneration and metabolism. The treatment improves elasticity, increases blood circulation and oxygen flow while releasing toxins. Red or green is applied, depending on your skin condition.

Watch as your visage is refined, glowing and radiant after a single session.

Recommended Treatment: Intensive treatment (one session bi-weekly), and followed by the maintenance session (one session monthly).

Omega LED Recovery

With OMEGA LED photo-modulation, you can obtain the benefits of skin recovery light treatments post laser, deep peels and micro-injection treatments to reduce inflammation, redness and bacteria and accelerate healing.

This treatment delivers safe, concentrated wavelengths of therapeutic natural light to your skin at the cellular level. The near-infrared wavelengths of light reduce oxidative stress, stimulate cellular energy production (adenosine triphosphate, or ATP) and increase circulation. This powers up your skin cells, which then regenerates and heals faster and resolves inflammation.

Recommended treatment: Intensive treatment of 10 sessions (one session monthly).
