Post-CNY: Here’s how you can maximise your weight loss

“Ate too much over the CNY holidays? Here’s how you can maximise your weight loss and get back into shape ASAP!”

We are a couple of days into the Year of the Ox, and it’s little to no speculation of what has brought you to read this post. We often feel that it is more than okay to bond over food and drinks with our loved ones during these festive seasons. However, it is often our choice of excess snacks and the types of food that make it hard for us to turn around (with the extra flab around our waist).

It is generally notable that most traditional festive treats and dishes are also packed with sugar and sodium — in which excessive consumption of both can lead to water retention and bloating. With that, if your tastebuds are still singing the song of the yummy pineapple tarts or the scrumptious bak kwa, it is probably a good time to put them away.

In this lunar new year, the round shape can symbolise reunion, but this is not a reunion you would want on your face and your waist. Without further ado, Shens Therapeutics is here to share some tips which can help you maximise your weight loss post-CNY!

Diet Switch-Over: High-Fibre Super Foods

healthy foods

To mitigate the guilt, as well as the effects of the highly-seasoned food, you can consider incorporating high-fibre superfoods into your diet to provide a boost to your metabolism rate. With a well-balanced metabolism rate, it would aid your body in expelling the excess sodium. Thus, slowly relieving you from the effects of water retention and bloating (e.g. the overall water retention on the face may cause your facial features to look less defined).

Moreover, ‘superfoods’ are also packed with nutrients. In short, superfoods are foods — mostly plant-based, but it also includes some fish and dairy — that are thought to be nutritionally dense and good for one’s health. Despite the increase in metabolism rate to expel the body’s waste, the superfoods’ nutrients would suffice for the losses.

Withal, here are some superfoods which you can add to your weight loss diet: Blueberries, Kale, Nuts (roasted and non-seasoned), Chia Seeds and Sweet Potatoes. Nonetheless, it is important to note that you can still gain weight from overeating healthy food, and you should try only to consume a healthy portion.

Hit the gym, instead of jogging

Indeed, jogging/running is one of the easiest exercises to start with, as we often consider them to have a low entry barrier (no equipment and access costs).

However, studies repeatedly show that more fat loss is achieved by high-intensity exercises. These high-intensity anaerobic exercises only use 20 to 25 minutes of training time, compared to the aerobic (“cardio”) training that employs 45 or 50 minutes to burn the same amount of calories.

During the aerobic exercise (e.g. running and jogging), oxygen is regulated at a constant yet manageable pace for an extended period. On the other hand, anaerobic exercise (e.g. weight lifting, HIIT and sprinting) involves faster and more explosive movements that utilise your immediate energy reserves. Therefore, anaerobic exercises tend to burn more calories from carbohydrates relative to fat, while aerobic exercises do the opposite.

If you’re looking to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time, you can look into the option of higher intensity workouts or simply hit the gym for some strength training!

Freeze ’em!

In recent years, there has been a lot of buzzing about fat freezing (known medically as cryolipolysis) in the fields of non-invasive body sculpting as it poses little to no downtime after the treatment.

In short, cryolipolysis, which literally translates into cold (cryo) fat (lipo) destruction (lysis), the treatment can selectively destroy fat cells without damaging the overlying skin within the treated areas.

In our previous post, we have talked about ‘subcutaneous fat’, and ‘visceral fat’.

However, for this particular treatment of fat freezing, the fat we refer to is the subcutaneous fat.

For individuals looking for the fastest way to shed off post-CNY tummy rolls or just that stubborn pocket of fat that the above diet and exercising don’t help, you can try this at Shens Therapeutics!

At Shens Therapeutics, our Body Curve CryoSculpt treatment uses the cryolysis technique, which is an innovative fat-freezing technology, to effectively and safely reduce fat deposits. Under controlled freezing down to -4 degrees celsius, subcutaneous fat will be disrupted and eliminated without affecting any surrounding tissue or the skin. Following the procedure, the targeted fat breaks down over a period of four to six months, resulting in fat loss that appears entirely natural.

With the above-listed recommendations to maximise your weight loss, we hope that you would be able to get right to it and shed that unwanted post-CNY belly fat!
