To Wax or IPL?

waxing treatment requires a sticky wax to be applied to the skin. A cloth strip is placed over the wax and then pulled off, ripping off the hair. The hair root is removed and takes 3 – 6 weeks to grow back. IPL is a method of hair removal that uses light energy to reduce hair growth permanently. During IPL, pulses of light are delivered to the skin and absorbed by hair follicles and damage the bulb of the hair. This eventually stops hair regrowth.

What does IPL feel like?

A waxing treatment will give you a more painful experience, particularly in the more sensitive pubic region. An IPL treatment, however, will feel like warm pulses, which may feel uncomfortable at first, but it doesn’t take long for your body to adapt, making the IPL session easier to manage. Any discomfort will be reduced as the sessions progress, and your hair becomes lighter and finer. Waxing is a recurring painful process, while IPL permanently reduces hair growth in the long run.

What makes an IPL works well?

The more contrast you have between your hair and skin colour, the more effective the IPL treatment will be. This means that if you have fair to medium skin but dark hair, your IPL treatment will be more successful. After an IPL treatment, your skin will become more photosensitive for 2- 4 weeks after, and you cannot have extended sun exposure in the target area for at least two weeks.

Will I get ingrown hair?

Customers who shave or even wax have reported ingrown hairs which feels itchy and bumpy or even darker due to the heat treatment. IPL, on the other hand, has skin lightening effects which are a bonus.

How many IPL sessions are needed?

Only hair in its active growth state will be targeted and destroyed by the IPL. At any given time, only 20% of your hair is in an active growth phase. Thus, repeated IPL sessions are needed every 3 – 6 weeks to reduce hair permanently. After two weeks of the IPL treatment, regrowth will be lighter and finer, and you may see patchy areas. After at least 4 – 6 IPL sessions, the treated area will eventually be uniformly bare.

Can I afford IPL treatments?

The cost of IPL treatments may seem prohibitive at first but delivers faster and more permanent results. The cost of a lifetime of waxing is more. Further, a single IPL session for Brazilian last between 5 to 10 minutes and saves you time, which is money well spent!
